The Dynamics of Violent and Destructive Cults, Gangs and Hate Groups –
In a time of social and spiritual unrest, many people seek reassurance in new religious and political orientations. Thus, we see a wide spectrum of relatively old and new groups within America and throughout the world. Participation in Cults, Hate Groups and Gangs are on the rise and include people of all ages and walks of life. Turning a blind eye to these trends does not make them go away.
Information about these groups is often limited and not easily accessible. Alleged practices such as brainwashing, destruction of family ties, and paramilitary aggression towards individuals and groups should be identified and understood for what they are. The RMRC and NYRC staff investigates and collects information about groups engaging in violent and destructive behaviors.
The RMRC and NYRC maintains files on a variety of groups who are currently active, as well as historical data on previously active groups. Students conducting research, family and friends seeking to understand and reach out to loved ones in a particular group, community agencies dealing with domestic violence, and emergency service organizations can all find valuable information at the RMRC and NYRC.
RMRC and NYRC can also provide help to former members by providing information on support groups which will aid in adjusting to new surroundings. Support services are also available for family members with loved ones in these groups.
